ILLEGAL ALIENS

The key word in "illegal aliens" is illegal. When I was sworn in as a peace officer, I swore to enforce the laws and constitutions of the State of California and the United States of America . Why shouldn't the local cops, who are usually a lot sharper than the Feds (Tom Clancy would disagree with that, I know.) be responsible for all of it?

Very few robbers, burglars or other illegals are caught at the scene. A hell of a lot more are done in when they're stopped by the beat officer who checks things out.

In Europe , everyone has to have in possession, while traveling, an identification document. For those from outside the EEU, it's a passport. Exactly what the citizens have to have, I'm not sure, but my wife's relatives in Italy never leave home without it. And I don't know what happens if you're stopped by a police officer, immigration official, or whoever. Nonetheless, you need one.

Yes, I know California and most of the other states could not get along without illegal aliens, especially those from Mexico and Central America . So change the INS (or whatever it's called now) procedures to facilitate "guest" workers. In today's computer age, anyone can duplicate documents. However, there could be safeguards in the systems to catch most of the fakes. For example, if there is someone working in Southern California and another in Michigan working with the same Social Security number, that should set off some bells and whistles. And there aren't enough cops, fed, state, or local to catch all of it, so how do you expect just the feds to make a dent?

Then slam dunk the sweat shop-pizza parlor-burger joint-etc. owners who deliberately skirt the law, and slam them good.

Oh, I AM sorry. I realize it would be terribly humilifying to ask people to prove who they are and if they should be here.
